9 Questions with our New Face – from Ireland

You're a complete new face to the industry. What made you decide to become a model?

​

I’ve always really been interested in fashion, for years I’ve been watching the runway shows of the brands I’m interested in each season. Not just for the clothes, but for the set design, the hair, the music, and also the models themselves - how they portray characters or ideas that fit in with that season's direction. I’ve been told most of my adult life that I should try and become a model, from friends, family and people I work with. Once I imagined that I could be apart of the very thing I passively consume, I became set on actualising that. I’m so excited to be at the start of the journey towards that goal.

What is something that sets you apart from others your age? Any unique skills or 

interests?

I have a philosophy degree, I’ve trained to form thoughts. More seriously, I think studying philosophy helps you view the world differently than if you had not, and gives you a very intrinsically rewarding set of skills. I’m interested in philosophy surrounding the internet and technology, especially interacting with ethics, as well as aesthetics, the philosophical study of art. Two philosophers whose work really interest me are David Chalmers and Shoshana Zuboff. ​

What is your favourite and least favourite food from your country? 

My favourite would be Cullen skink, it’s a creamy soup made with smoked haddock. It’s delicious and hearty, perfect after a hike up a Munro (Scottish mountain), which is when I usually would have it.

 

My least favourite is probably lorne sausage, it’s a square sausage that you have either on a roll or with breakfast. I kind of go through phases of eating too much of a certain food and admittedly this was one of those instances, now I can’t eat it.

What is your dream city to live in? Why?

​

I’m not sure I could pick just one, so it would be a city like Paris, New York, or Tokyo. Somewhere massive, and sprawling with so many different people and ideas. I think I’m drawn to massive cities because of growing up in such a small town, something about a city that is constantly evolving or growing really appeals to me. Somewhere where you could encounter new things everyday.

Top movie or favourite musical artist? Do you have a special memory involving either? 

My top movie would be Battle Royale, it’s a cult classic film with a self explanatory title. My twin brother and I stumbled across it, far too young probably, but we watched it together and I was amazed by it. I think it’s truly one of the most underrated modern films, and that it definitely helped birth the battle royale genre that is so popular today in film and video games. 

 

My favourite musical artist is Bladee, I love his lyricism and sound, no one else is doing it like he is. Just about a month ago I painted a pasta bowl with his album ‘crest’ on it.

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Do you play any sports? Do you have a favourite sports team? 

Currently I enjoy playing basketball and doing bouldering with my friends, both are very social and fun. Bouldering is especially satisfying with the feeling of completing each climb and the progression that you come away with each time. I played rugby from very young to the end of high school, my dad was a rugby coach, so it wasn’t much of a choice on my end. I enjoyed rugby sometimes… but my build just did not agree with the sport, and I was very aware of that.

 

And no I don’t really have a favourite team, I don’t watch sports much, I’d much rather be playing than watching.

What is the most treasured vacation you've taken in your life? 

I spent some time in Vietnam last year, and it was truly magical. Such a beautiful country with the best people. I still think about the coffee there. It’s the furthest I’ve been away from home, and I loved exploring a place so different than what I’m used to.

If someone was to come to your hometown, what would you show them? 

There’s a small cove beside the harbour in my hometown. It’s serene. I would take them there at sunset, it’s so tucked away that many times I’ve been there it’s just me and the sea, it’s waves crashing against the rocks.

Would you say you're more introverted or extroverted?

Not to avoid the question but I’m not sure if I could categorise myself as one, I really go between the two. I love to make people laugh, unexpected conversations with strangers, a good party. But I also sometimes really feel the need to be alone with my thoughts, sometimes that is a breath of fresh air.

 

I believe I come across as an introvert more than I really am however, probably because sometimes I’m hesitant to start talking.
